2018 Special Olympics Connecticut Golf Tournament Letter
Dear Guests,

Welcome to the 2018 Special Olympics Connecticut Golf Tournament presented by Eversource, hosted by Foxwoods Resort Casino and the Lake of Isles Golf Course and made possible by a dedicated group of extraordinary volunteers.
Your participation in this golf tournament benefiting Special Olympics means so much to our organization, our volunteers and coaches and, of course, our athletes!
This year, we proudly celebrate a significant and joyful occasion – the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics! Our organization was founded by visionary Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1968, during a dark time in history when people with intellectual disabilities were institutionalized, hidden from society and deprived of an education. But Mrs. Shriver’s perseverance and determination, a cadre of leaders who continued her work and the “inclusion revolution” ignited by sports that followed has changed all that.
Today, our athletes are on sports teams with their peers without disabilities, they’re keeping active as members of our Unified Sports® Fitness Clubs, they’re receiving free wellness screenings and resources to improve their health and they’re serving as leaders in our organization and in their communities!
During the past five decades, we’ve seen the transformative power of sports – how they help our athletes gain self-esteem, self-efficiency and friendships; how they restore parents’ belief in the promise and potential of their sons and daughters and how they create communities that accept and include people with intellectual disabilities. These monumental changes could not happen without friends like you who believe in our mission and participate in fundraisers like this annual golf tournament.
We are celebrating our athletes and their achievements at events and competitions throughout this year. We are also celebrating supporters and friends like you, who, have helped make it possible for us to provide life-changing sports, health and fitness programs to our athletes with intellectual disabilities and their Unified Sports® teammates for 50 years! Through your good will, generosity and involvement, you help reveal champions – champions who uplift us and inspire us every day.
Enjoy your day on the greens and thank you for supporting Special Olympics!
